As proud members of Origin Green, we actively participate in initiatives dedicated to promoting sustainability within the food industry.
Origin Green is Ireland's leading sustainability program, which helps businesses like ours to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets, covering areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, water conservation, and biodiversity.
We are also members of Repak, which is Ireland's packaging recycling scheme, through which we contribute to reducing the environmental impact of packaging waste.
In 2023, we took another significant step towards sustainability by transitioning from coloured milk caps to clear ones. This seemingly small change has a big impact on recycling efforts. Clear milk caps are fully recyclable, whereas coloured ones, due to the added pigmentation, cannot be recycled into food-grade packaging. By making this switch, we're not only reducing waste but also ensuring that more of our packaging can be recycled efficiently.
In 2018, Clóna Dairy Products Ltd. achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first dairy in Ireland to ensure that 100% of our milk suppliers are SDAS qualified. SDAS, or Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme, sets rigorous standards for animal welfare, environmental management, and food safety within the dairy industry, aligning perfectly with our commitment to sustainable practices.
We're committed to sustainability and plan to install solar panels at our Clonakilty production plant and Wilton distribution centre within five years. This will reduce our carbon footprint and enhance energy resilience.
Sustainability at Clóna is a journey we're committed to every step of the way. From responsible sourcing to energy-efficient operations and waste reduction initiatives, we're constantly striving to minimise our environmental footprint and maximise our positive impact on the world around us.
At Clona Dairy Products Ltd., we are passionate about promoting sports and healthy living in our community. We are proud sponsors of the Cork U16 Ladies Football Team and the Bandon Ladies Football Club, encouraging young athletes to excel. Additionally, we support various other sports clubs in the surrounding area, including GAA, rugby, soccer, and golf clubs, fostering a spirit of teamwork and athletic achievement throughout the region.
Clóna Dairy is proud to support West Cork athlete Nicola Tuthill, who will compete in the Hammer Throw at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“We are deeply honoured and delighted to support Nicola as she goes forward to represent Ireland at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The team at Clóna and the entire community is proud to see a West Cork woman competing at the very highest level of international sport. She is an absolute inspiration, and we wish her every success at the games!”
Tony O’Driscoll, CEO Clóna Dairy.
Clona Dairy Products Ltd. actively participates in and sponsors a variety of local events to enhance community life. We support meaningful events such as Darkness into Light and various fundraisers for local amenities. Additionally, we have proudly sponsored the West Cork Rally, Harvest Festivals, the Festival of West Cork, and the enchanting Fairy Trail in Ballincollig Regional Park, and many more worthwhile causes! Our involvement in these events reflects our dedication to celebrating and enriching the vibrant culture of our community.
In May 2023, we hosted a health and wellbeing evening in collaboration with the National Dairy Council, aimed at raising funds for the West Cork Rapid Response. The event featured a panel of esteemed speakers including a nutritionist, psychologist, and chef, who provided valuable advice on mental health, balanced eating, and incorporating dairy into a healthy lifestyle. This initiative underscores our commitment to the overall wellbeing of our community.
