Brown Soda Bread

Ingredients: 

175g plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 heaped teaspoon bread soda
225g wholemeal flour
50g wheatgerm
25g melted butter
275ml Clóna Buttermilk

1. Preheat oven to 220˚C.
2. Grease a 2 lb/ 900g loaf tin lightly with melted butter.
3. Sieve the flour, salt and bread soda into a bowl. Stir in the wholemeal flour and wheatgerm and mix well.
4. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and add the melted butter and Clóna Buttermilk and mix to a soft dough using a wooden spoon. Mix well using a wooden spoon.
5. Place mixture into the greased loaf tin.
6. Sprinkle with sunflower seeds, or porridge oats (optional).
7. Bake on the middle shelf of the oven for 40-50 minutes.
8. Turn out of loaf tin. A good indicator that it is ready is when the bread sounds hollow when tapped, if not return to the oven for a little while extra.
9. Allow to cool on a wire tray.

To serve:
Brown bread may be served in many ways such as with butter, cheese, relish or with soup.
